Imageblog: Mom, Pop, and Goslings

By Robert K. Foster

Mom, Pop, and Goslings

A pair of Canadian Geese and goslings.

These Canadian Geese actually started their family in a semi-urban location right next to a busy road. Many buildings in the area create these ponds for water runoff and then plant them with native plants. I guess they are good enough for this pair of geese and the other pair that use this same pond. It’s good to see integration of wildlife like this and I wish other developers and home owners had the same attitude about it. Of course I fear for the safety of the chicks being near the road but, if the pensive attitude of the parents towards me was any indication, it seems they are kept well in line by Mom and Dad.

I was interested to see that this pair had six chicks whereas the other pair of geese had twelve chicks. It’ll be interesting to see how they fare. As a cat owner who keeps indoor cats I am thankful that none of my cats would be able to go after chicks of these kind. I suspect Mom and Pop would have something to say about it in any event.
