A stand of pines in early Spring.
These pines have grown so close that they have little or no branches until near the tops of the trees. In a way it’s an “elevated” forest. However, there is a sense of comfort from being amongst pines of this kind from just the scent to the sound of the wind rustling through. It was a cool Spring day when I took this picture so it felt quite peaceful. It’s good to have a forest like this nearby.

A bench in the Spring sunlight.
I managed to get back to the same bench that I photographed earlier in the Winter and got this picture in the Spring sunlight. It’s not a very good photo but I wanted to see the contrast with the other picture. Most of the trees are not in full leaf yet but the evergreens are of course. The bench looks like it is opening up to the sun, like many of the plants are doing all around it.

A plant grows high among the beach grass.
I thought it was interesting how this lone stalk of a plant had managed to grow up out of the surrounding plants as if to say “I’m here!“. Of course it’s colder, windier, and also sunnier for this plant now that it is out in the open but, hey, it’s a plant. It’s not like it can up and move someplace else. About all it can do is continue growing taller and stronger. The sun, the cold, the wind won’t go away. This plant knows what many in life come to realize—make the most of what you’ve got because sometimes it’s all you have.

A trail in beach grass at sunset.
The sun is going down, you have a choice. Follow this path or follow the other. One will certainly end up at the beach with the vast ocean beyond. The other may also lead you to the beach, or it may lead you home again.

A modern construction of standing stones.
As today is a Full Quarter Moon in my neck of the woods I thought this photo would be appropriate. This is a modern construction of the ancient system of marking time and season with stones positioned to point to celestial events. This one is on Cape Cod in Massachusetts in the United States and just has some of the basic indicators for the Solstices and the Equinoxes and maybe others. Not that we really have a need for such things in this age of automatically updating atomic clocks and personal wrist watches. On the other hand, I think there is something subliminal and ancestral that one feels when seeing standing stones of any sort. Particularly if they are put there by human hands and not just a natural feature. And of course a feeling of being grounded and connected to the Earth is what sites like this are all about.

A peaceful harbor scene with fishing boats.
This peaceful and idyllic harbor scene belies the hard work that the owners of these boats have to put in to bring home the fish. There are also a couple of seals that haunt the water beneath as this photo was taken from the dock where the fish are unloaded. Of course the gulls on the sandbar are simply resting and waiting for the next boat to approach.
